Float and wade trips · full and half day · all ages · open all year
Come share the unforgettable experience of fly fishing our favorite stretches of the world famous San Juan River. This premier tailwater fishery is nestled between beautiful sandstone bluffs in the desert Southwest; the first 4 miles, also known as the quality waters, boasts a healthy trout population in excess of 10,000 fish per mile.
We offer several floating combinations to meet your specific fly fishing desires. If you're looking to fish different water, ask about combining a float through the quality waters and the bait water section from Crusher Hole to Rainbow Lodge, which is an extra 2.9 miles of fishing. We also offer trips through the 9 mile stretch below the bait water where the fish are spread out and require some casting.
A typical full day float trip is 8 hours and includes transportation from Navajo Dam to and from the river, a delicious lunch, non-alcoholic drinks, fly rods, thermal tackle, and flies. Waders and boots may be rented at an additional cost. Bring clothing appropriate to the weather, a hat, sunscreen and a camera.
If you're interested in slipping on a pair of waders and exploring the San Juan by foot, our guides can provide their expertise and knowledge of the river. While both methods have their merit, wade fishing offers a different experience than floating the river. There is a lifetime of fishing opportunities in the 4 mile stretch of the quality waters.
Our guides have decades of experience wading the San Juan; they can teach you the upper stretch of the San Juan that is not accessible by boat. While wading, each guide can accommodate one to three clients.
Trips include basic tackle, flies for the day, and a hearty lunch with non-alcoholic beverages. Half day trips include non-alcoholic beverages.
An over-the-counter New Mexico fishing licence is required. Waders and boots are available to rent.
Half day trips and group rates available, call for pricing. Add a lodge cook for $75 per guest per day, or a room at The Cockhouse for $50 a night.
Master Guide Brian Shock has dedicated over 18 years to the San Juan and knows every hole on the river. Matt Martin works the remote backwaters for native fish that have never seen an artificial fly.
